1 in 3 computer users may have symptoms of RSI
Research shows that RSI, or Repetitive Strain Injury, is set to affect 1 in 3 computer users (Source: RSI Action ). This is backed-up by facts from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) which show 448,000 British workers suffered from Musculo-skeletal Disorders (which include RSI conditions) in 2003/04.
How does affect British companies?
The HSE also estimates that 9.5 million working days were lost due to RSI conditions in the UK during 2005/06 (an increase of 4.8 million from 2003/04!), leading to ongoing costs for companies and misery for sufferers of RSI.
BUT THESE COSTS AND MISERY CAN BE REDUCED?
How?
The first step is to ensure your company is complying with the Health & Safety (‘Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992’. Taking account of all employees working habits, and ensuring all workstations and computers are set up according to Regulation t need not be to be a major task, especially when working with local company, FixMe ltd..
FixMe can provide fully qualified and trained assessors to help ensure you are minimising the risk of RSI for the employees in your company. The process is not expensive or lengthy, does not interrupt the working environment and will positively contribute to the elimination of bad working posture, incorrect set up of work stations working practices.. For proper risk assessment and comprehensive recommendations on how to maintain a workforce with less injuries and disabilities from RSI, FixMe provides an appropriate programme.
The Health & Safety Regulations cover all working environments, including the office, building site and off site workers e.g homeworkers : employers have a responsibility to provide the correct assessments and advisein order to ensure risk of RSI injuries are kept to a minimum.
