FixMe on BBC Radio Berkshire today!
The Daily Mail recently reported that incidence of back pain and headaches has doubled in computer users in the last decade.
The BBC invited Diksha to discuss this issue today and asked her for some tips that listeners could put to immediate use to prevent these problems.
Diksha provided the following tips to prevent both back pain and headaches:
1. Make sure the chair is supportive; it doesn't have to be expensive, just needs to provide adequate support
2. Take a break every 30mins and physically get up. This prevents the postural muscles from tiring, thus enabling to help you maintain the correct posture
3. Drink adequate amounts of water - this helps to keep the discs in the spine hydrated and maintain good alignment
4. Do some stretches! Stretch out the hamstrings, the quads and the muscles of the calves
5. Use eye wash and exercise eye muscles to ensure they function well and not lead to tightness in the neck and shoulders
