How to experience inside the Dragon’s Den...
How to experience inside the Dragon’s Den… without risking your money!

How can you get a flavour of being a Business Angel in the Dragon’s Den to see if it’s got any appeal at all – if there is any money to be made, any fun to be had – without putting any of your money at risk?

The trouble is, even the most talented and successful businessmen can’t simply click their fingers and instantly absorb the knowledge skills and experience needed to succeed out of thin air – they need to gain these from somewhere. And the Business Angel marketplace provides a very expensive and unforgiving learning curve.

Equity Entrepreneur© runs workshops at Henley Management College to promote Business Angel activity in the Thames Valley by increasing the quality and quantity of Business Angel investments, by increasing the understanding of Professional Advisers about this sector, and by enhancing the understanding of the requirements of Business Angels among fundseeking entrepreneurs - all in a non-threatening, fun and inexpensive environment.

The aim is simply to get more money invested by more people more wisely, thus having a beneficial multiplier impact on the success of entrepreneurial activity in the Thames Valley.

In order to ensure that no organisation benefits preferentially from workshop attendance, Equity Entrepreneur (Education) cic is a not-for-profit community interest company. Sponsorship is not accepted and thus there is no reason for any organisation to fear competitive predation of referred clients.

The Equity Entrepreneur© workshops provide real, practical experiences and cases, and are designed to highlight the benefits of networking and working collaboratively. Essentially, they involve a mixture of participants from Professionals, new-investors, experienced investors and entrepreneurial fundseekers. They are highly participative and interactive; and above all they have to be fun. The objective is to have the investor participants leave the day determining to continue with Investor Club and Syndication activities, the Professionals determining to increase their exposure to early stage business with a view to later benefit, and the fundseekers gaining a deeper insight into how to raise funds. And the results have so far been very encouraging.

The workshops are run to break even financially, and at just Ł175 plus VAT for investors it is intended to attract not only those who are already committed to Business Angel activity – indeed, they would in all probability pay very considerably more to attend - but especially those who merely have a curiosity to find out about it.

The feedback from those who have already attended is highly complimentary, with comments ranging from “fantastic – that’s all!” to “very useful day – an enormous amount to cover; I have been involved in planning and organising about 1000 courses – this was a good one! Thankyou!”

So far 100% of the investor participants at the workshops have joined investor clubs, while at least 2 of the fundseeker participants have received funding since the workshops with 4 others in continuing discussions.

Equity Entrepreneur© believes it will have succeeded in its goals when some potential investors decide, after all, not to become Business Angels but still recommend the day to their friends and colleagues as a thoroughly enjoyable experience; only then will it be hitting all the right targets.
