Homeworkers help reduce environmental impact
Any firms looking for a painless way to cut down their carbon footprint should take into consideration the prospect of allowing their employees to work from home.
With green issues becoming more high-profile, saving on car journeys and commutes into the workplace will save employees time and money with the added benefits for the environment.
It is hoped that firms could adopt such practices in order to help their staff financially as increasing petrol and train prices can make it tricky to get to work.
More people seem to be coming to the realisation that if they work from home one or two days a week and not use the car or travel on the train, then it is going to help things like carbon emissions.
Unfortunately working from home has not been high in Government policy and there has yet to be any clear encouragement from central or local Government on this. The main obstacles of home working seem to be a lack of technology, and a lack of support from senior staff.
Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform has recently carried out a survey on flexible working and found that 52 per cent of employees were conscious of the right to ask for flexible hours, with 13 per cent of staff asking to do this since the right was introduced in 2003.
