MERL Annual Lecture: Tomorrow’s Low-Carbon Countryside
The Museum of English Rural Life will be holding their annual lecture at the University of Reading in the autumn. This year’s subject is ‘Exploring Tomorrow’s Low-Carbon Countryside’ and the event takes place on October 10th.
The MERL Annual Lecture is held annually in the Great Hall of the University of Reading. This year’s lecture covers a highly topical subject: “Exploring Tomorrow's Low-Carbon Countryside”. The lecture will be delivered by Jonathon Porritt, Founder Director of the Forum for the Future and Chairman of the Sustainable Development
Commission.
The Museum of English Rural Life was founded by the University of Reading in 1951 to reflect and record the changing face of farming and the countryside. The museum houses designated collections of national importance spanning a wide range of objects, archives, photographs, film, and printed materials. Today, it forms part of the University's Museums and Collections Service.
Located opposite the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Redlands Road, Reading, the museum operates as a major resource and research centre for the history of food, farming, and the countryside with links into the School of History and other academic departments at the University.
The annual lecture takes place on October 10th at 5pm in the Great Hall. Further information is available at www.merl.org.uk/news. Note, although admission
is free, a ticket is still required. To request a ticket call the Museum on
