A new multi-company team, led by the technology firm Goodrich Corporation and Rolls Royce, have joined forces in order to undertake research to cut down on the environmental impact from aerospace engines.
The firms are set to invest in the research project and Goodrich will aim to provide electronic system controls during validation runs. It has been dubbed the environmentally-friendly engine technology programme, with the engine control and electrical power systems team taking up the mantle from Goodrich. Vice president of engineering and programmes from engine controls at Goodrich Simon Burr said that he is happy the firm is linking itself to the drive. "Solutions to provide environmentally-friendly aerospace engines are linked to the need for dramatic improvements in engine control technology. As part of this team, Goodrich will stay at the forefront of emerging innovations," he commented. A number of other firms have joined the research project, including Bombardier Aerospace and a quota of universities. Goodrich says that it offers a number of services including safety systems for aircraft.
