Occupational hygiene
What is occupational hygiene?
People at work can be exposed to a variety of hazards through their normal workplace activities.
Hazards may include:-
• Chemicals in the forms of liquids, dusts, solvents, fumes and fibres
• Physical hazards such as noise, vibration and non-ionising radiation (UV light, lasers)
• Ergonomic problems such as manual handling, work tool use and workstation use.
If these hazards are not effectively controlled they can have a harmful effect on human health. The consequences may not appear until some time after the initial exposure, so it is important to know in advance how best to protect and safeguard the health of your employees.
Envex provides comprehensive, high quality occupational hygiene surveys to assess and control workforce exposure to hazardous chemicals and physical agents including noise, vibration and indoor air quality.

Indoor air quality Indoor air quality can be affected in many ways. Internal pollution can be caused by such factors as construction materials used in the building, furnishings, fixtures, equipment and materials in use and even the land where the building is sited. Envex can conduct the required indoor air quality assessments to give you the confidence your workplace is healthy. more | | Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) examination and testing Envex can provide thorough local exhaust ventilation (LEV) examination and testing services. Where a local exhaust ventilation system such as dust or fume extraction is used to control exposure to substances hazardous to health, there is a legal duty to ensure that the system continues to operate effectively.
Thorough examination and tests should be carried out at least once every 14 months to ensure the LEV equipment remains in good working order and comply with the COSHH Regulations 2002. more | | Workplace air monitoring If you, as an employer, fail to adequately control hazardous substances, your employees could be affected. Effects from hazardous substance exposure can range from mild eye irritation to chronic lung disease or even, in the worst case scenario, a fatality. Workplace air monitoring, such as personal sampling for hazardous substances can be important to complete an adequate assessment or to demonstrate controls measures are still effective. Air monitoring data can also be important when defending against possible employee claims. more | | Workplace noise surveys and management Envex are experienced in noise management and provide a complete service from assessment, control, training and health surveillance. more | |
