Dear Friends and Colleagues
Welcome to the Enterprise Week 2006 newsletter. Please forward this to all your contacts with an interest in enterprise and young people. ABOUT ENTERPRISE WEEK Enterprise Week 2006 will be on 13-19th November and is a national celebration to inspire young people to turn their own ideas into reality. It includes business start-ups, social enterprise and innovation within existing organisations. Last year, Enterprise Week involved over 2,000 events which were attended by over 400,000 people and gained over 1,200 pieces of media coverage. We hope it will be even bigger this year. Enterprise Week is only possible because of the thousands of people who - by running a huge range of events - provide the leadership which is so crucial for the future of young people. And by running an event or an open day, you can also showcase your work to the media, politicians, funders, young people and the public. Make the week YOUR week - start planning your event now. You can order a free Action Pack by sending your postal address to info@enterpriseinsight.co.uk or by calling Lauren on 020 7497 4042. PLEASE REGISTER YOUR EVENT You can register your event online now at www.enterpriseweek.org, which will put it on the official events listing. We can then promote it, to help you get publicity for it. THEMED DAYS To help provide a focus and generate media coverage, each day of Enterprise Week 2006 will have different themes and activities. These are of course optional - you are welcome to run events about any aspect of enterprise on ANY day of Enterprise Week! MONDAY 13 NOVEMBER - THE MAKE YOUR MARK CHALLENGE The Make Your Mark Challenge is a one-day enterprise competition for teams of six. The teams can be in workplaces, schools or colleges and you can enter as many teams as you like. Participants must be aged under 30 and it is completely free. The best teams will progress to a national final. Last year this was the largest activity in Enterprise Week, with over 1,500 teams taking part at the same time all over the UK. If you would like to register an initial interest from your workplace, school or college for taking part in this national occasion, please call Jude on 0845 094 0226, email jude@enterpriseinsight.co.uk or register online at www.makeyourmarkchallenge.org TUESDAY 14 NOVEMBER – IDEAS AT WORK DAY All organisations need young employees who are innovative. And companies which inspire their staff with an enterprising culture, attract and retain the best people. Ideas at Work Day is an opportunity to inspire young employees to be enterprising and to profile and celebrate those who are already turning their ideas into reality at work. This day will focus on various sectors such as manufacturing, and organisations across the UK will be taking part by running events, publicising case studies, etc. For more information contact Claire on 020 7497 4039 or email claire@enterpriseinsight.co.uk WEDNESDAY 15 NOVEMBER - WOMEN’S ENTERPRISE DAY Women’s Enterprise Day is a national celebration of the achievements of enterprising young women. It aims to inspire many others to develop the skills and confidence to turn their own ideas into reality. For more information contact Alex on 020 7497 4041 or email alex@enterpriseinsight.co.uk THURSDAY 16 NOVEMBER – SOCIAL ENTERPRISE DAY Social enterprises are businesses that trade for a social purpose, with profits being reinvested for community benefit. On Social Enterprise Day, social enterprises across the country will hold events and open days to engage and inspire young people, and show the media and others what they do. For more information contact Jordan on 020 7539 8581 or email jordan@enterpriseinsight.co.uk FRIDAY 17 NOVEMBER – SPEEDNETWORK THE NATION To make an idea happen, you have to be good at connecting to other people who can help and advise you. Enterprising people are good at networking. Speednetwork the Nation will involve hundreds of events across the UK. It will last for just one hour from noon to 1pm, and it is very simple - every five minutes the whistle blows and you talk to someone different. It is a great way to help young people get connected - fast! You can run a speednetwork event which connects people at work, or one for people wanting to start their own business, or one that is a learning exercise for students – it’s up to you. To ask any questions, register a speednetworking event or get your free speednetwork pack, contact Jo on 020 7497 4037 or email jo@enterpriseinisght.co.uk PROMOTIONAL LEAFLETS To help us to spread the word about Enterprise Week we have lots of free promotional leaflets. Are you sending out a mailing which could include them? Could you give them out at a conference or display them in your organisation? Email info@enterpriseinsight.co.uk or call Lauren on 020 7497 4042 and let us know how many you would like. With best wishes Kevin Steele Chief Executive Enterprise Insight
