“408,000 people attended Enterprise Week events” - NOP research
Enterprise Week, which promotes enterprise to young people, was held in November 2005 and was two and a half times bigger than the year before. 408,000 people all over the UK attended 2,215 events, run by 722 organisations helped by 3,874 businesses. 28% of the events formed new enterprise networks. There were 1,204 pieces of media coverage valued at over £3.4 million, and coverage in the national media tripled. • Participation in Enterprise Week exceeded all expectations, with 408,000 people attending events. This is two and a half times more than the previous year. • There were 2,215 events (89% up on 2004) run by 722 organisations helped by 3,874 businesses. 71% of the events were specifically for people under 25. • A key aim this year was to catalyse networks to embed sustained impact. Encouragingly, new enterprise networks were formed at 28% of the events. • 38% of events used the Make Your Mark logo (up from 33% in the previous year). • The Make Your Mark Challenge was the UK’s biggest ever live enterprise competition, with 1,524 teams taking part at the same time all over the country. • 66% of events were run especially for the week and 23% were moved into it. 96% were seen as successful and 57% are already confirmed to be run again next time. Media coverage There were 1,204 pieces of media coverage - 40% up on 2004. The print coverage alone had an editorial value of £3.4 million and a circulation of 114 million. For comparison, this is seven times the level achieved by the winners of the national PR awards. Coverage in the national media, at 125 pieces, was triple that of last year. Pieces were in every daily newspaper, including the entire Financial Times comment page and full-page articles in other papers. BBC1 TV news had daily coverage throughout the week including the “hat trick” of the breakfast, lunch and evening bulletins on launch day. Reliability of data The above figures are from three highly reliable sources: the survey company NOP, the media monitoring agency Romeike, and formal registration data for all 2,215 events.
