Young Entrepreneurs Gather at Pinewood
Eighteen budding young entrepreneurs underwent a busy business plan workshop day at Pinewood Studios last weekend (24th Sept). The day was designed to help develop each participant’s creative business idea into a 10 page business plan, covering key aspects such as:

• The business and the product
• The market and competitors
• Sales and marketing
• Operations and logistics
• Management and company structure
• Financial forecasts
• Investment requirements
• Risk assessment

Guest speakers from a range of business backgrounds, included Slough Borough Council’s Enterprise Advisor, Ramesh Kukar, accountant John Addrison from the MorleyandScott Accountancy firm, and Arthur op den Brou from Reading based design company, Designation.

The participants also received words of wisdom and advice from one of last year’s Young Entrepreneur Competition winners, Emma Carvalho of Fusion Dance Company. Emma and her business partner Louse Efde turned their community dance group into an award winning creative business after winning the competition last year.

The competition is organised by Enterprise Hub Director Ann Johnstone and this is the second year young people have had the opportunity to submit their creative business ideas to a panel of business start-up experts.

Advice is available throughout the planning stages of the competition and professional guidance is offered to a handful of finalists before the last draft of the business plan is submitted for judging.

The day ended with 2 minute ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitches from all the participants, who will each submit their final business plan for judging before the 14th October 2005.

The competition culminates in an award ceremony on the 17th November 2005 at the West Wing Arts Space in Slough as part of Creative Horizons Week. The event offers an opportunity to showcase and celebrate local creative talent and demonstrate the creative industries contribution to the economic and social wellbeing of Slough.
