Higher Education Convention
Over 7,500 Thames Valley Young People to attend
Education Convention
Over 7,500 young people from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire are set to attend the Higher Education Convention, which will be taking place over two days, on 17th and 18th March at the University of Reading. Organised and sponsored by Connexions Berkshire and in association with the University of Reading, Thames Valley University, UCAS and HELOA (Higher Education Liaison Officers Association), this is a major event in the school and college sixth-form calendar and will run from 10am to 4pm on both days.
Over both days there will be a series of subject talks given by Tutors from universities and colleges from across the UK. Students will be able to attend three talks during the course of each day and will be able to obtain quality professional advice from the representatives staffing stands from more than 130 universities and colleges of higher education. There will also be opportunity to talk to GAP year organisations.
On the evening of Monday 17th March there will be a special event for the parents and carers of students who wish to go on to higher education. Run in partnership with Aimhigher Berkshire, the event will be held in the Palmer Building of the University of Reading's Whiteknights Campus. Due to popular demand, there will be two sessions during the evening; 5.30pm - 7.00pm and 7.00pm - 8.30pm. At each session parents and carers will be able to find out more about; the benefits of higher education, the application process, student finance and student life. There will also be a question and answer session, plus the opportunity to talk to academic staff about locally run courses at the University of Reading and Thames Valley University.
Martin Rudd, Convention Manager said, “This event is vital for helping to support Thames Valley young people through the increasingly complex world of Higher Education opportunities. I know this event is particularly appreciated by local schools and colleges as well as by the young people who attend. Each year our Higher Education Convention gets more and more popular and 2008’s event promises to be the biggest and best yet with estimated numbers of Year 12 students from school and colleges across Berkshire and bordering counties set to top 7,500.”
