About Us
The Donnington Grove Estate is set in a delightful and secluded position on the outskirts of Newbury and is overlooked by the historic Donnington Castle. It runs to 550 acres and is a mixture of parkland, farmland and woodland, with the River Lambourn running through it. The house on the estate was built between 1763 and 1772 in a style known as Strawberry Hill Gothic.
In November 1991 work began on building a championship golf course and the conversion of the house into a hotel. The course architect was Dave Thomas, the Ryder Cup player, who has been responsible for several well known courses, including the Brabazon at the Belfry and Bowood in Wiltshire. Donnington Grove Country Club opened in June 1993.
Visitors to Donnington Grove are able enjoy a number of excellent facilities:
Golf on our championship golf course. We welcome both individual golfers and societies. We can also arrange corporate events, mixing golf with business
• Accommodation at our hotel which is based around the elegantly restored house
• An outstanding restaurant offering both traditional and Japanese menus
• Business functions - we can host a wide range of business events from small meetings to seminarsand conferences
• Social functions - we can arrange everything from a wedding to a birthday party
New clubhouse
Golfers at Donnington Grove will enjoy even better facilites in the coming years, as we have just started to build a new clubhouse for our golfers, both members and visitors. It will be situated at the rear of the hotel.
Included in the development is a new pro shop, a large indoor golf tuition area, an 80 seater restaurant and a spike bar that can seat 60 people. In addition, both the men`s and ladies changing rooms will be totally refubished.
This is part of a major new investment in the golf course and facilities, which has already seen the completion of a new reservoir.
