BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISE COMMITTEE CONSIDERS THE CREDIT CRUNCH CHALLENGE COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES FIRST EVIDENCE SESSION WITH LORD MANDELSON

The Business & Enterprise Committee today announces its forward work programme for the next month and highlights its intention to consider the impact of the current economic circumstances on business within the UK

The Committee will take evidence at its meeting on Tuesday 21 October 2008 from the newly appointed Secretary of State at the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, Lord Mandelson, on the Government's views on the implications of the current economic situation for businesses and his own ambitions in his new role. These questions will form part of the Committee's annual evidence session with the Secretary of State on the department's Departmental Annual Report.

The evidence session will be held as part of the Committee's on-going inquiry into creating a higher value added economy and will provide the Committee with an opportunity to consider how the 'credit crunch' is affecting UK businesses. This meeting will be held on Tuesday 4 November 2008.

The Committee is also seeking comments from interested individuals and parties which may assist Members at the meeting on Tuesday 4 November 2008. Submissions should be short (no more than four sides of A4) and e-mailed to becom @ parliament.uk as soon as possible and no later than Wednesday 22 October 2008.
