Entrepreneurs Have Never Had it So Good
The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and kicking according to the Chief of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Richard Lambert. He claims the UK’s entrepreneurial culture is the strongest it’s ever been since the 2nd World War.

Mr Lambert was speaking at the recent CBI Entrepreneurs’ Summit in London. He argued that despite the challenges faced by most entrepreneurs, the business spirit in the UK today is as dynamic as it’s been for years: "I’ve been in this job at the CBI for ten months now. And during that time, I’ve come to the conclusion that the entrepreneurial culture is alive and flourishing here in the UK” he said.

Despite the red tape small businesses frequently face, Mr Lambert believes that young entrepreneurs are more adventurous now than they were a decade ago and added “the business world is changing at an astonishing pace. Disruptive technologies and processes are changing the face of long established industries, and bringing whole new sectors of activity into life. Supply chains are being re-examined, and market access is being transformed by the internet.”

Indeed the UK is fast becoming the country of choice for ambitious start-up companies. Mr Lambert referred to Skype as an example of an exciting firm that decided to choose UK as its base.

Mr Lambert also believes UK universities have become more outward looking recently “They are much more willing to engage with commerce and the wider world. Last year the Times Higher Education Supplement published a list of wealthy entrepreneurs who had started out life as academics. It was long and glittering.”

Mr Lambert concluded by saying “this is an exciting time to be engaged in entrepreneurial activity here in the UK.”
