Hamster Heaven

|
There was once a hamster, called Hector.
Hector lived in a nice little box with cotton wool all around and was very snug. He worked hard on his wheel all day, then he would stop, have a meal, be stroked and squeezed by hot chubby hands and then go to sleep. One time when he was being stroked he felt like running in a straight line and not round and round so he dashed off …but he was caught a few minutes later, squeezed rather hard and put back into the cotton wool. The next day when he got back on the wheel he felt rather dissatisfied. He wanted to go somewhere on the wheel – to be free. So he had a brilliant idea, branded it Hamster Heaven, and contacted some Hamster Angels. He explained the concept: a hundred beautiful hamster wheels which could unroll in a straight line whenever the hamster wanted them to. A place in the open country side, with food provided, hands to stroke them whenever that was needed, that would be so big, it seemed like freedom. It would be so popular! But the Angel Hamsters weren’t interested: they wanted to know about his track record in creating hamster heavens, and for their two pennyworth they wanted a killer return on investment, and a really favourable exit strategy in three year’s time. Hector went back to the wheel. But he refused to give up and decided to ask the banks for sunflower seed capital. The banks demanded such a high percentage he didn’t think he would get out of the cotton wool in the morning to make money for them. One day while he was on the wheel he heard a voice unlike any other he had ever heard say: “ Why hello hamster baby. You are a fine looking hamster …” The fur stood up on the back of his neck And he heard the words he’d only dreamed of “Let’s make Hamster Heaven” and he said “Yes”. And they did. They enjoyed it and quite soon they had twenty children. And these children were so clever that they developed the special hamster wheel and they all enjoyed using them so they rolled them out to a new site. Then the hamster angels visited him and offered him three more sites at the edge of a brownfield because they believed in him, and then the banks showered him with sunflower seed capital. And he franchised Hamster Heaven very successfully. And became rich and happy Because he made the dream come true With his creative spark. © Jean Wolfe 2004. |
