Creative Businesses Celebrate Success

Slough Borough Council ran its last event in the ‘Grow your business, Grow you income’ programme last Thursday and everyone who attended from the creative industries reflected on their economic achievements since taking part in the course.
Run by Slough Borough Council’s Enterprise Link, the course has helped a number of creative businesses - ranging from filmmakers to sculptors - to improve their business skills and grow their business. The series of events, which have taken place over the past ten months, have each dealt with a different aspect of running a successful business. Five of the participants were presented with an award, having increased their company turnover by more than Ł15,000 since the programme began. One of the winners, puppet maker Jo Bryant, felt the course has made a lasting impact to her business; “Everyone was commenting on what a successful course it was and how the special ending made it an event we will never forget.” Bobbi Johal, community business advisor, feels that the course gave participants invaluable skills to improve their businesses. She said; “We wanted to provide people in the creative industries with the skills needed to make the most of their work. The programme has been a real success, with each workshop giving people the chance to participate and try out new ideas. I have been pleased with the progress that everyone has made and they have all exceeded expectations.” The programme ran in partnership with Slough Creative Academy, Slough Enterprise Hub, South East Development Agency (SEEDA), Thames Valley University and Hub and Spoke.
