FESTIVE CHRISTMAS FUN IN ROYAL WINDSOR AND ETON
Windsor and the Royal Borough has an exciting programme of festive activities and events running through November and December into New Year 2009. The historic towns will take on a special festive atmosphere with lantern processions, a reindeer parade, Christmas farmers markets, open-air carol singing, Christmas shopping evenings and visits by Santa Claus and his helpers. Visitors will be able to soak up the unique ambiance and join in a variety of events as well as visit some of the heritage attractions and take in a show at the Theatre Royal where this year’s pantomime is Peter Pan running from 3 December to 11 January. With so much to see and do, a choice of hotels, B&Bs and traditional inns offering accommodation and sixteen different types of cuisine in Windsor, it deserves more than just a day trip. Festive Highlights Festivities start in Eton on Friday, 21 November when the Christmas lights are switched on at 5pm with carol singing and other family entertainment. There will also be a European Market in Eton from 21-23 November, while Windsor’s lights will be turned on the same weekend on Saturday, 22 November with the fun starting from 3pm. Windsor Royal Shopping, the retail centre in the heart of Royal Windsor, will be staging a series of festive fun-packed ‘Breakfast with Santa’ events every Saturday and Sunday morning in December, as well as Monday 22nd – Wednesday 24th. Held at Café Rouge with a choice of two sittings – 8.30am or 10am, there will be lots of yuletide goodies to enjoy and of course, the opportunity for children to meet Santa so they can tell him what they would like for Christmas and collect a small gift. Tables must be pre-booked by calling 01753 797070. There will also be special late night shopper evenings on Thursday 11 and 18 December. Other highlights will include a live Reindeer Parade starting from Castle Hill, Windsor on Saturday, 6 December from 2pm; a Christmas Farmer’s Market from 9am-1pm in St Leonard’s Road, Windsor, also on the 6th; Christmas concerts in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle at 7.45pm on 11 and 12 December and open-air Carols on Castle Hill at 6pm on Friday 19 December. |
