Go nude with your interior styling!
“Nude” is the third of four key interior trends to hit the UK high street during spring 2008.
Nude doesn’t refer to decorating a room wearing nothing but your skin! In terms of interior styling it is about using a natural scheme and keeping things simple. And let me enlighten you: neutral styling done well is far from ‘boring’! And the definition of neutral in colour terms is certainly not ‘magnolia’!
Get into neutral
Neutral colours include luscious creams, clean, crisp whites and classic beige. Don’t write-off beige as unexciting - choose the right shade and use it to best effect and it will play its part in a fabulous result. Warm tans, natural sands, creamy coffees and rich chocolate browns also have their place in a neutral palette.
A neutral room scheme is about simplicity, enabling the natural beauty and features of your home to take centre stage. A neutral design involves clean and simple lines. Create feelings of comfort and calm; warmth and cosiness.
As a property stylist helping a client to present a property for sale, I use a natural scheme as the effective way to help a prospective buyer to really see the property, to imagine moving in with minimum fuss and effort. But don’t imagine that employing a neutral palette means striping away ambiance and warmth. With the right combination of shades, textures and furnishings, homely and sumptuous looks can be achieved with ease.
A natural room scheme can easily include use of other colours on the spectrum. The beauty of neutral colours is that they can be incorporated into any design. Add an accent colour to a natural design or bring neutral accessories into a coloured scheme.
If you’re not ready for a complete room restyle, think about how you can introduce neutral tones and accessories into your current scheme with cushions and throws, bed linen, table ware, lighting, and so on.
