Yellow brightens spring 2008 interior trends!
The trees are bursting into leaf, the daffodils are in bloom and that glimmer of sunshine from time to time tells us that spring is almost here. So what better interior styling trend for spring 2008 than…yellow! Yes, the colour yellow is currently one of four key trends on the UK high street. So expect to be dazzled next time you go shopping for furniture or accessories. It will certainly get you in the mood for summer! But do you know how to use yellow to best effect in your home?

You could have a lot of fun decorating your home in yellow. But my advice is to think very carefully how best to use it before you rush to the shops!

While yellow is a warm, positive colour it can also have significant psychological and adverse effects. In the same way that staring at the sun hurts our eyes, a large expanse of yellow grabs our attention but also makes us feel uncomfortable. People tend to lose their tempers more easily in brightly painted rooms. If you intend to use yellow on a wall then choose the shade wisely and balance it with white ceilings and paintwork. You may have to live with your choice for some time.

Softer shades of yellow sooth, brighter shades energise. If you plan to use yellow in a living room or bedroom, think about how you want to feel in the room – calm or energetic? Often used in restaurants, yellow is a popular choice in kitchens and dining rooms because it is dynamic and inspirational and is a colour which speeds up metabolism.

If you’re concerned about going overboard with yellow then use it more strategically. As an accent colour in your accessories and soft furnishings it can add a lively punch. Team it with another colour for a harmonious or bold scheme. Used in moderation, yellow can enhance the atmosphere of your home.

Consider introducing yellow in outdoor accessories and picnic wares, mugs and kitchen items, soft furnishings and accessories, and children’s rooms.
