Waitrose Community Matters
Waitrose profits help charities
A new in-store scheme from Waitrose has been set up to help local charities.
The new scheme “Community Matters” is being piloted in four of Waitrose’s branches. These are in Newbury, Wokingham, Henley, and Witney, near Oxford.
£1,000 cash will be donated from Waitrose’s profits each month to three local charities. Customers using the store are given a token in which they can vote for which charity they want to receive the donation by placing the token into a box. At the end of the month the cash is divided up in proportion to the number of tokens/votes a charity has received.
Both members of the public and Waitrose staff can nominate charities within the store’s catchment area.
At the end of April The Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, Mencap Bubble Club and The Dogs Trust, Plumbs Farm, Hampstead Marshall will all be given a share, and then the process will start again in May.
Over a 12 month period, a total of £12,000 would benefit around 36 local charities, although charities can be nominated more than once.
