Wokingham Schools' Debating Competition 2006
The first rounds of the Wokingham Schools' Debating Competition 2006 for the John Redwood Cup will take place on November 7th & 8th. The competition is in its third year with students from eight of Wokingham constituency's secondary schools taking part.

On Tuesday November 7th, defending champions at Maiden Erlegh School will pit their skills against Bearwood College, Luckley Oakfield and St Crispins Schools. On Wednesday November 8th, Hosts, The Willink will be challenged by Emmbrook, the Holt and Ryeish Green schools.

Local businesses and the media are again giving their support to the competition which is designed to give Wokingham students confidence and additional skills when interviewing for university or for jobs.

John Redwood said: "I'm delighted to be organising the third Wokingham Schools' Debating competition. It is very important that we do everything we can to help our students succeed in their chosen profession. Debating and presentational skills are highly valued by universities and companies and we want to put our students ahead of the game.

"I should like to thank our sponsors: 3M, William Clark, Classicstone Properties, Clifton Ingram, Raphael Vive & Co and The Royal Bank of Scotland PLC for their generous support. We couldn't run the competition without them."

Winners and runners-up of the Competition are treated to a day in Parliament when they and their teachers can watch a Parliamentary debate. Local Member of Parliament, John Redwood gives them a full tour of the Palace of Westminster and lunch. All participants receive prizes from the House of Commons and the winning school also receives a wonderful projector from 3M.

The Semi Finals will be held on November 23rd and the Finals on Thursday November 30th. tickets are available from Christine Hill on 01189 629501.
