Council Grants for Voluntary Groups
Wokingham District Council has now launched its annual grant funding scheme, which provides support for local community and voluntary organisations.
The scheme helps organisations that provide services for local residents, ranging from sport and leisure through to education and social services. A portion of the council's budget is always allocated to supporting examples of such voluntary work, with successful applicants receiving their grant at the beginning of the next financial year. "The district council recognises the importance many of our local voluntary and community sector groups play in our community," said Councillor Dianne King, executive member for community development. "They provide a valuable service, often complementing services provided by the council, and share the same community ambitions as we do." Councillor King advises organisations to ensure they submit their application before October 31st. "We can then take the very difficult decisions on how the budget can best be allocated and we will fund projects or activities that are run for the benefit of residents in the district," she added.
