Proof of Networking Success
Full subscription to courses is proof of networking success

Having run a training company for over 10 years, Ann Woodhead of Fractals, is no stranger to the challenges of enrolling delegates and filling up places. But when she repositioned the company three years ago, it was the opportunities offered by Business Referral Exchange (BRE) that really made the difference.

“The three past courses have been filled purely through referrals from BRE,” explains Ann. “There are several groups within Berkshire and further into the Thames Valley area and it has proved to be an invaluable route to market for Fractals.”

September 2006 sees the fourth successive run of Inspirational Presentations, a highly-practical, thought-provoking training course designed and run by Ann. Once again, she will be looking to her network of BRE contacts to promote the course. “BRE is a networking organisation that gives a very clear focus and enables me to reach out to my target market very cost-effectively,” explains Ann. “There is a trust and relatedness that you don’t get in other networking groups, which means that you build up a very strong network of not just contacts, but people who will champion your business.”

BRE is a national networking organisation that provides businesses with the tools to expand their client base and develop long-term associations with other organisations locally and nationally. While the ethos of BRE is to generate quality leads and referrals, it is also about encouraging people to develop mutually profitable relationships and get the most out of networking.

Ann has been a member of the Wokingham group of BRE for three years and believes that the key to making the network a success for Fractals, is down to using it to its full potential. “You can’t have a scattergun approach when it comes to networking,” she says. “So with BRE I have a very clear plan of which groups I visit and how often and then how I maintain and develop the relationships that I establish. It is a comprehensive marketing campaign and that’s exactly how every business should be using networking.”

In the years as a member of BRE, Ann has become a popular visitor to groups around the region, delivering guest speaker slots and revealing nuggets of presentation techniques to members. “If you can give something that people can take away and use, you strengthen your position and increase the potential for leads and referrals. After all, if you get something useful after a 10-minute talk, just think what you would get from the full course!”
