WINDSOR FESTIVAL 2008
SCHOOLS PROGRAMME PRIZE WINNERS HONDA (UK) TO SPONSOR FOR THREE FURTHER YEARS The winners of the Windsor Festival 2008 Participatory Programme for Senior Schools were awarded their prizes today (Friday, 5 December) at a special presentation in Windsor Castle’s Education Centre. At the same time sponsors Honda (UK) confirmed they would be continuing to support the Education Programme for a further three years. Now in its fifth year, the programme has proved to be an ongoing success. Supported by Honda (UK), it aims to encourage imagination, creativity and artistic talent in senior schools throughout the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and to develop an understanding of the artistic world. Young people from years 10, 11 and 12 were invited to submit work in any of four categories, namely Two-Dimensional Art; Three-Dimensional Art; Creative Writing and Music Composition. This year over 350 submissions were received and judged by a panel of highly qualified professionals. The winning and highly commended entries from the four categories were exhibited to the public at Ascot Racecourse over the weekend of 26 - 28 September as a central part of the Ascot Arts Festival, a joint venture with Windsor Festival. Honda’s involvement with the education programme has enabled them to take their Power of Dreams philosophy to young people within the local community, encouraging the highest possible quality of artistic endeavour. As title sponsor of Windsor Festival, they have kindly donated the programme’s monetary prizes for both the pupils and their schools. Those in first place received £150 and their school £450; second prize winners received £100 and their school £225 and those in third place £50 and their school £100. Guided Tours of Windsor Castle All pupils whose work was showcased at the Ascot exhibition were given a guided tour of the State Apartments in Windsor Castle highlighting some of the finest works of art from the Royal Collection.
