Saturday 28th June 2008 hundreds of people shelter in the shade of the old oak trees along the Thames at Windsor. They are waiting for the call of the wild from Paul Roach, Windsor Town Centre Manager and leader of the Windsor Ducks, a flock of some 2000 ducks who have been training hard for this day.
4:10pm and the call goes out, the crowd go quackers as they blow on their duck callers, 3, 2, 1 and they’re off... the Rotary free the 2000 ducks and they dive to get the best position for the 100 yard dash to victory and the knowledge that they have made a small child giggle, a grown man cry and an old lady smile.
2000 ducks took 20 minutes to cover the 100 yards with the winner crossing the line in a record 9 minutes and 28 seconds! Amongst these winning ducks there is the first business duck to cross the line, number 86, a late entry from McDonalds. With a training diet that consisted of McDonalds latest Toasted Deli Sandwich, washed down with a cool banana milk shake, Windsor’s fastest business duck came in with a time of 9 minutes 33 seconds, excellent work!
As well as a crate of wine from Waitrose, the McDonald’s Business duck was the winner of a Business in Berkshire SILVER SEO Membership. And you know what? They don’t know how lucky they are!
