The 17-year-old Leanne Lawley became the first woman to guard the gates at Windsor Castle last week.
It is the first time in 900 years that the authorities have allowed female guards to keep watch at the royal establishment in Berkshire.
The King's Troop Royal Artillery is providing 20 soldiers - of which five are women - to supply security throughout the month of April.
Leanne's mum Joanne told the Windsor Observer that her daughter didn't realise what a fuss the switchover in sexes had created.
She said: ''We are extremely proud of her. I do not think Leanne realises how much attention they have got''.
Only in January of this year did the King's Troop appoint a female commanding officer, a unique development as it was the first Household Division to do so.
The King's Troop is most well known for saluting state figures by firing a canon at organised state events.
