King Edward Court Car Park

NEW TRAFFIC DIRECTION FLOW AT KING EDWARD COURT
King Edward Court Shopping Centre is now coming to the last phase of the refurbishment of the car park.

The early phases were to:

• Clean and repair all surfaces
• Paint all walls and ceilings
• Apply a new warterproof surface on the roof (level 7)
• Install new lighting on all floors with higher illumination levels in staircases and lift lobbies
• Fit security mirrors on half landings
• Refurbish lifts to meet Disability Act requirements
• Install a new CCTV system throughout with digital recording
• New signage
• Provide Car Valeting

The Last Phase is to:
• Revert back to the original car park exit
• Install a Vehicle Monitoring System (VMS) and reverse the flow of the traffic direction
• Fully opening up Levels 1 and 2 of the car park which are the areas beneath the new shopping development
• Install new running gear for the 4 passenger lifts
• Install additional payment machines

In order to improve the time it takes to park, the flow of traffic within the car park is being reversed. Drivers have previously experienced delays in being able park because, with the current traffic flow direction, drivers have to wait to allow a vehicle to park before they are able to proceed either to their chosen floor or to find the first free parking space. This waiting to allow someone else to park can happen 2 or 3 times and can be very frustrating.

In order to let shoppers get to the parking level they wish to park on, access to the different levels will be via the spiral, which will be up rather than down. Traffic will be directed through level 1 and up to level 2A towards the spiral where they can quickly drive up to their chosen floor and then park. The VMS system will inform them whether there are spaces available to park on that floor.

New information boards will inform the public of the new traffic flow, but in order to finalise the installation of the VMS system and signage, King Edward Court Car Park will close at 8:00 PM on Saturday 24th March until 6 AM on Monday 26th March 2007 when the new traffic flow will take effect. Additional staff will be in attendance to assist drivers with the new systems and traffic flow.
