Bigger and Batter - Windsor and Eton Pancake Challenge 2007
It's time to flex those wrists and whizz up eggsactly the right combination of flipping skills and fancy footwork - and take to the streets of Windsor and Eton for "second helpings" in the wake of last year's successful pancake challenge.
The traditional race to the finish promises to be even bigger and ‘batter’ this year hoping to at least treble last year's tally of 12 teams taking part in the age-old Shrove Tuesday activity.
The Windsor and Eton Town Partnership is this week once again tossing down the seasonal challenge to local businesses and organisations to demonstrate their flour power and beat their rivals to the coveted place on the winners rostrum on Tuesday February 20th. All proceeds from the race will go towards
Thames HospiceCare and the Windsor and Eton Christmas Lights Appeal.
After tasting success as last year's champions, the Cross Tossers from Barclays Bank will be trying "flipping hard" to maintain their title - but the heat will be on this year with four sets of heats in different venues around the town and the grand finale on Windsor and Eton Bridge.
The whole event will once again take on the festive air of a "costume drama" with teams encouraged to don the traditional pancake racing gear of the 15th century housewife - skirt, apron, headscarf and frying pan (male participants included!)
Organisers are also looking for a local company to sponsor the whole event at a cost of £500 – with the sponsor enjoying the benefits of free entry for two teams in the races and branding at all race sites on the day, as well as on all marketing and promotional material including certificates and the winners' cup.
Enrolment packs and sponsor forms are available from the Windsor Information Centre, Old Booking Hall, Windsor Royal Shopping Centre. They should be completed and returned there by Friday February 16th, along with entry fees and sponsorship monies.
For more information about the race and sponsorship opportunities, contact Paul Roach, Windsor and Eton Town Manager, on 01753 743921.
