National News
The Sun profiles "high street saviour" David Croissant: The Sun today profiles David Croissant, who has set up website TheShoppers.Bible.com to promote small local retailers. Nearly 2,000 retailers have signed up to the website since it was launched.

Online sales boom: Online retailing is expected to reach sales of £10.3bn, however, several problems including after-sales service, a high rate of product return, and pressure to make websites more exciting could cap the market share at about 10 per cent.

Inflation; Shop prices rise for first time since 2002: Figures released by the Office for National Statistics, inflation has returned to the high street for the first time in more than four years, causing a fall in sales.
Shop prices rose by 0.6 per cent in the year to September, the first annual rise since January 2002 and the largest rise since June 2001.

Link found between introduction of chip and pin and rise in shoplifting:
British Retail Consortium has found evidence that there may be a link between the introduction of chip and pin cards and an increase in shoplifting. It highlights a 13 per cent rise in incidents in the last year while credit card fraud fell by 18 per cent.
