Business in Windsor - Fairtrade Status for Windsor and Maidenhead

Last Thursday 9th March saw Windsor and Maidenhead celebrate the achievement of becoming a Fairtrade Borough (The picture shows Olu Odeniyi and Councillor Beverley Green)

Almost two years ago the Council threw its weight behind the RBWM Fairtrade Group’s campaign for a Fairtrade Borough by using only Fairtrade tea and coffee for meetings held in our buildings. Since then local support for Fairtrade has continued to grow until now there are enough businesses taking action on trade issues to allow the borough to be awarded Fairtrade Borough status by the Fairtrade Foundation.

Celebrations started at the United Reformed Church in West Street, Maidenhead. Members of the team who lobbied the council for Fairtrade invited the general public to join them for a cup of tea and a slice of cake!

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Beverley Green made the Borough's official Fairtrade status declaration to the people of Maidenhead in the early afternoon.

In the evening, Mayor, Cllr Eric Wiles made the declaration at the Guildhall, Windsor.
