Windsor and Eton Brewery opening its kegs |
79 years after the closure of Windsor’s last brewery, we are delighted to be bringing brewing back to Windsor.
When Burge’s Brewery closed its doors in 1931, it brought to an end a tradition of Windsor brewing that had lasted for well over 300 years. Last week on Monday 8th February, we were granted permission to start brewing again. Our ambition is simple - to make great traditional cask ales and have great fun on the way. We hope that our ales will prove to be a great hit for locals and many of the 17 million visitors who come to Windsor and Eton each year. Today we have an empty factory within sight of Windsor Castle. Within a few weeks, brand new British designed and built brewing vessels will be arriving. We hope to be ready to begin producing our first beer in April. Traditional cask brewing is a uniquely British institution. We have had so much help from so many other brewers all around the country who have been incredibly generous with their time and experience. We’d like to thank everyone who has helped us - we couldn’t have got even this far this fast without your help and encouragement. As you can see the web site is as empty as our brewery but we will be building it step by step as we build our brewery. Each week, Willie will be creating a new cartoon that captures some aspect of the journey or just something topical that we find funny. If you’d like to see and hear how we are getting on then you can log on to this site or sign up to Facebook and Twitter. We would love to hear from you. |
