Local businesses in Windsor Keep Trade Local |
|
Members of the FSB’s East Berkshire committee and local business people came together on 8th December for the launch of Keep Trade Local and to enjoy some quality business networking over some seriously scrumptious Christmas vitals!
Above we can see Ross Carne, assistant Manager of the ha ha bar, with Jon Davey committee member and David Knowles-Leak, the FSB’s Regional Policy Chairman being asked for their “name, rank and serial number” by the local press photographer! (All these photos were taken by John Cassidy. If you would like to see more of his work then visit www.johncassidyphoto.co.uk ) David Knowles-Leak said, “Windsor is a great example of a thriving town because of its history, the castle and royal connections attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists every year which ensure a bustling environment. This in turn attracts many local people from the surrounding area who prefer the ambiance of Windsor to their local run down shopping areas and so travel that bit further. If we are to help reduce the carbon emissions and see thriving communities again in our local towns then there must be lessons learned from Windsor and applied locally, across the UK, by their town’s business men and women.”
On the night local business networks joined forces to make the evening a great success. Pictured are Jon Davey of Business in Berkshire, Mary Flavelle East Berkshire FSB Chairman and Sharon Tomkins of the Windsor Business Community network who runs a regular monthly event at the ha ha bar in Windsor for local businesses ... all are welcome so please, come on down ... sign up for BinB Monday newsletters to keep you posted on this and other networking events. Mary Flavelle said, “Jon Davey is the Windsor representative on the East Berkshire committee. Being a resident and local businessman he has a vested interest in making sure events like this in Windsor work. We want local businesses to be aware the FSB is not just a National organisation - it is local as well and thanks to people like Jon we can make this happen. It is a great idea to link in with Sharon and the Windsor Business Community, what a happy crowd of business men and women! It’s so important for local businesses to connect face to face, and working out how they can improve the business environment for themselves by discussing any issues that might need addressing with the local council, business ideas that have worked and others could try, things that have been tried and have not been so successful. We can achieve so much more by working together and supporting each other, the FSB intent to continue supporting this group." If you would like to know more about the local FSB then click here...
Local businesses network and share ideas at the ha ha bar ... Sharon Tomkins who runs Kiereen Design and Project Management Limited came up with the idea of the Windsor Business Community along with Sue Rae, manager of ha ha bar & grill when she landed the marketing contract for the local shopping centre. “We wanted to get the local retailers talking to each other and it made sense to bring in other local businesses hence the name Windsor Business Community. Sue was only too keen to entertain local businesses and this year’s Christmas canopes went down a treat. We had medallions of Aberdeen Angus steaks with pepper sauce, roast turnips and more. No expense was spared and We have had a ton of thank you emails since. We can’t wait to get next year’s programme underway, come and join us in 2010.” Get these dates in your diary: Tuesday 12th January 2010 more... Your local High Street needs your support. Small Businesses need your support. The UK economy is driven by small businesses. They make up 99% of all UK businesses and they are the engine for growth and job creation. Keep Trade Local Manifesto Our high streets face extinction. Nobody wants this to happen but there is little political will to ensure the future of small businesses. The FSB's Keep Trade Local campaign seeks to stem the tide of business closures, reverse the trend and defend the choice and diversity that customers deserve. In addition to the Keep Trade Local Manifesto we have produced a number of publications that elaborate on the issues in the Manifesto: Read the Post Office Manifesto Public Procurement Manifesto Crime against Business Manifesto Parking ManifestoBusiness Rates Manifesto A New Approach to the Rural Economy To encourage the Local Authorities to better help small businesses through the recession the FSB has launched a Small Business Engagement Accord.
