![]() RBWM have recently published their Participatory Budget which includes an option to vote for some initial funding for development of the Windsor 2012 Permanent Legacy Footbridge. You have the opportunity over the next three weeks to vote to determine whether this ‘seedcorn’ investment is made. With the money from the Participatory Budget the Group will be able to develop the concept further and prepare for a planning application, essential for getting the future funds needed (future funding will be sought from sources such as the lottery, companies, benefactors and the public through a ‘buy a plank’ scheme)Full public consultation and presentations will start in September.Your Local Budget Consultation. Tell us how you would spend £250,000 on projects in the borough and in your local town or village. To vote choose the 'online questionnaire' half way down the page. The first page of the questionnaire gives you 10 choices (bridge not among them) but on the second page choose 'Windsor' them the third page will allow you to vote for the bridge by giving it no 1 choice. For a picture of the latest iconic concept design option visit our web-site www.windsor2012legacy.co.uk How we got here...Friday I popped down the local Chinese to get our traditional supper and Nick pointed to the petition about the Olympics and a permanent bridge from Windsor to Dorney Lake. The council are planning on spending £500,000 on a temporary structure and Mike and his pals would simply like them to make it a permanent bridge for the town folk to enjoy forever. Excellent idea ... I signed, will you?If you could spread the word that is great and if you are involved with local community groups who would like to know more about it then Mike is willing to pop along and tell you more about it. Contact him via the website, Facebook or our BinB LinkedIn Group. Thank you.
Hi Jon, good to talk to you yesterday (26th January 2011). The Windsor 2012 Legacy Group is a group of residents led by Peter Brown (Chair), Peter's wife Catherine, me, my wife Sally and 3 or 4 other helpers. Our aims are on the website www.windsor2012legacy.co.uk which I know you have looked at. Our key objective is to get a better legacy for Windsor from the 2012 rowing events at Dorney, in particular a permanent bridge across the Thames from Sutherland grange to the North bank. We tried to engage the council last year with little result so we wrote to Adam Afriyie and started a petition to demonstrate support so the voice of the locals was heard (we are up to 180 on the e-petition compared to 37 last Friday - fascinating case study in e-power - plus about 450 on paper). There are still a lot of stakeholders to get behind us but things are moving forwards, then we can think about funding. At this stage what would be helpful is if we could get the word out to your network to encourage them to get their employees (who live, work or study in the RBWM) to sign the e-petition or download a copy of the paper petition from the website to get people to sign. As I think I mentioned we have a Facebook page 'Windsor 2012 Legacy'. This project is a new learning experience for me! We'll keep in touch. Thanks and all the best, Mike |
