France Afloat

BRITAIN'S ailing boat building industry is being revived by a French company investing in a new marine business in Reading.

France Afloat is a holiday company specialising in the French waterways network and is a family business owned by two British couples.

Now the company has linked up with Euro Classic Boats Ltd, of Surrey, and opened a boat building yard on Reading's Winnersh Triangle.

The business already has forward orders for 17 luxury British steel built cruisers, worth £2.5 million, which will be exported to France. Some boats will be included in the France Afloat holiday hire fleet, while others will remain in private ownership.

Joint managing director, Steve Adams said: “We have selected Reading for our new boat building business because the area offers us access to skilled workers, as well as excellent road links for shipping the boats to France."
