SpinVox Gives a Voice to Volunteers for ‘Give & Gain Day’ – 5 June 2009.
Business in the Community’s National Employee Volunteering Day Gets its First Voice-powered Blog to Bring Real-time Updates. Reading School to Get New Gardens. SpinVox, the global leader in voice-to-content messaging, is working with Business in the Community (BITC), the charity which mobilises businesses for good, to put the latest technology into the hands of its volunteers. Thousands of people taking a day away from their desks to help local projects will be contributing to BITC’s first voice-powered blog for its national employee volunteering initiative – ‘Give & Gain Day’ on 5 June 2009. In Reading, employees from Oracle, Wolsley and Capita will work collaboratively at the Avenue School to create a quiet and inspiring outdoor environment for children to use during their playtime or as part of outdoor learning & reading curriculum. The Avenue School is a day, special school for boys and girls from the age of 2 – 19 with complex Special Educational Needs. Employees from Oracle UK, Capita and Wolseley Plc will join forces to enhance the school grounds by adding a new reading garden, a sensory garden and an outdoor experience area. Everyone participating will be able to phone 0161 369 6767 (normal network charges apply) and speak about their volunteering experience. SpinVox will then automatically convert their voice messages to text and post them immediately to the BITC blogsite at http://bitc.vox.com/. Once there, everyone can share in the live, rolling update about the progress the volunteers are making at the projects on the ground. “More than 3,600 people from 180 companies throughout the UK are giving a work day to volunteer and gaining not only incredible experience for themselves, but helping improve their communities,” says Christina Domecq, co-founder and CEO, SpinVox. “We’re proud to support BITC in this amazing initiative and we’ll enjoy reading about the progress that people are making and how it feels to be out there in the field volunteering. It’s a truly inspiring initiative.” “Giving a voice to the thousands of employee volunteers who are giving their time, skills and talents to tackle social issues in their community is a great way to provide live feedback about progress on projects,” said Rob Compton, National Employee Volunteering Campaign Manager, Business in the Community. “Give & Gain Day will be exciting, and communicating all the action as it unfolds will give our volunteers the chance to tell their stories and for their colleagues back at the office to support them from afar.” More than 180 employee volunteering projects will take place on ‘Give & Gain Day’, which will benefit over 35,000 young people in deprived communities. Employee volunteers will work with their local communities to create reading gardens in schools and help break down barriers to literacy, and many businesses are hosting talent and enterprise workshops and tours to raise aspirations for young people and provide a better understanding of the world of work. Give & Gain Day 2009 is sponsored by law firm Eversheds LLP, and supported by 180 companies across the UK.
