A finance graduate from Reading has been named as one of Britain’s brightest young entrepreneurs.
Alastair Lindsay, who founded a website that enables students to rate their work placements took 2nd place at the 2008 HSBC Unipreneurs Awards.
Alastair and his classmates, Chris Wickson, Oliver Sidwell and Ben Smith (RMP Enterprise Ltd) built their own website www.ratemyplacement.co.uk. This site gives students who go on work experience an opportunity to review their internships and placements.
It generates its income by offering web space to employers, and already has a few big names signed up. The site offers students and employers a place where they can interact as well as offering advice and blogs.
The awards took place on April 23rd at the BAFTA Theatre in London, and the format of the night was a 10 minute Q&A from a panel. The panel included Dragons’ Den star Peter Jones and designer Wayne Hemingway.
After the Q&A session an audience of 200 delegates then voted for the company they thought deserved to win. RMP Enterprise Ltd took second place.
The awards were presented in association with the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship (NCGE). The NCGE was formed in 2004 with the aim of increasing the profile of entrepreneurship and the opportunity of starting your own business as a career choice amongst students and graduates.
