The Royal Navy continues to guard against threats to the United Kingdom’s peace and prosperity but only a small part of this activity is ever reported in the news. You may have seen recent reports of Royal Navy ships acting against pirates off the Horn of Africa or the Royal Marines fighting in Afghanistan or Royal Navy sailors catching drug smugglers in the Caribbean and perhaps wondered why such distant events might be important or relevant to you.
