Businesses Urged To Put on Their Thinking Boots for 2007
Taking stock personally and professionally is very much a symbol of the New Year with fresh starts and good intentions filling the air as much as fireworks. Yet while the festive season is a natural enough break to review matters, regular time out throughout the year can be equally refreshing. You just need to make it happen.

But should leaving phone, paperwork and email behind for an afternoon prove a bit of a guilt trip, then help – and justification – is on hand through Jacqueline Harris’s Breath of Fresh Air walks.

Jacqueline, of business development consultancy Auric Results in Woodley, has been running Breath of Fresh Air walks since August 2005 to get business owners and managers up from behind their desks and into the outdoors for a few hours’ stimulating break.

“The walks are an opportunity to mix with others in a relaxed atmosphere and think about different ways of doing things,” explained Jacqueline. “Enjoying a walk gets you going both physically and mentally and provides inspiration and exercise at the same time.”

Typically, Breath of Fresh Air groups are made up of around a dozen business people – working for themselves or others – who are keen to recharge while sharing problems, advice and experience. Groups are re-arranged along the route to give everyone the opportunity to meet and network with fresh faces.

Jacqueline facilitates each walk and themes them accordingly with topics for discussion. For the last Breath of Fresh Air of 2006, held in the Savill Garden in Windsor Great Park, she encouraged walkers to look back on the achievements of the year and share these with each other. Other locations have included Dinton Pastures in Woodley, Cliveden House in Taplow and Virginia Water.

“It’s all about giving yourself time to relax, re-energise and be creative while visiting somewhere new,” Jacqueline went on. “I know I think most clearly when I’m outdoors in the fresh air. It’s when I put on my thinking boots.”

Feedback is consistently positive with participants scoring the opportunity to do something a little different within the business day very highly.

“It’s not always easy to break out from the day-to-day by yourself even for a short while, but a Breath of Fresh Air walk provides the opportunity, the company and the context for everyone to really get some benefit,” said Jacqueline.

She is currently planning the 2007 Breath of Fresh Air programme of four walks and details will soon be available from the Auric Results website.
