Hannah Throws Lifeline to Overstretched Small Businesses

Small businesses often have too much to do and not enough time in which to do it, especially when chasing down new orders or projects takes priority. Trouble is, that can leave an event short of visitors, the office admin piling up with unsent (and therefore unpaid) customer invoices and overdue VAT payments.

But not if Fish in Custard’s Hannah Lewis from Woodley has anything to do with it.

Hannah offers a variety of business services to small firms whose best intentions remain just that. So she will design and maintain websites, carry out research projects, undertake marketing and PR campaigns and manage events, which recently included a series of student roadshows to promote the business strategy tool, Yomp.

For Business in Berkshire’s GIFT event for Children in Need on 17 November, Hannah recruited entrepreneurial students and business people from small and large enterprises to meet, network and compete in a pitching competition all in aid of the charity, raising £500.

She combines her degree in computer science with a varied work CV that includes two years acting as sales agent for PopVase, an innovative waterproof and recyclable paper flower vase devised by her brother. “I was on the road visiting florists and exhibiting at craft fairs and markets all over,” Hannah recalled. “Meeting and talking with people during that time suggested the idea of Fish in Custard – when I went through what I was doing for PopVase many said they could do with someone just like me to do the same for them!”

With PopVase now successfully licensed, Hannah is free to put her organisational skills at the disposal of other small companies. “Small businesses often lack resource in a number of areas – from office admin jobs like invoicing or organising expenses right through to managing crucial sales and marketing projects.

“Unlike a typical secretarial support company, though, Fish in Custard can help right across the board and aims to build a trusted network of suppliers with specific skillsets that will expand the range of services on offer,” she added.
