‘Man and a Van’ Concept Gets Professional Makeover
When medium or small businesses need financial or legal advice, they get in touch with their accountant or solicitor. But when it comes to managing those occasional, less specialised tasks that don’t fall under a convenient job title, where do they turn?

Well, a new service set up by Martin Brailli from Earley aims to provide the answer.

Martin is putting his 20 years’ business experience across a wide range of disciplines at the disposal of companies who need key jobs doing well that fall outside the business’s normal day-today operations, or for which there’s no obvious external supplier.

“I’ve positioned myself as the General Factotum,” explained Martin. “That’s someone who can come in, take on a task or project manage it to a successful outcome while leaving the business owners and key staff to get on with what they do best.

“If you like, I’m the business professional version of ‘a man and a van’.”

Two recently completed projects demonstrate exactly the value of what Martin delivers to companies that find themselves strapped for resources and expertise at key moments for the business.

“I’ve just managed the office move for a new start-up from leased premises to its own building,” Martin went on. “This was a big task for the company. Staff were flat out on the day job and they needed someone to make sure everything happened when it should – right through from the physical move itself, organising cleaners and sourcing office furniture to getting a sign up outside and stocking the kitchen with coffee mugs.”

In total contrast, Martin has also completed a two-week stint hosting a group of African diplomats on behalf of a print equipment manufacturer exporting to the region.

“The visit was an integral part of the deal but would have involved key people being taken off other work to manage it,” he explained. “So I did it for them, acting as the company’s representative and making sure the party got value from their trip.”

Martin remains open to any challenge that businesses may throw at him.

“I’ve deliberately not defined the scope of what I can do too narrowly or too specifically,” he said. “But if it involves service or product sourcing, arranging quotes, project management of any kind, fulfilling a specific service like visitor hosting or manning exhibition stands, then I can help.

“Mine is a reactive service and I’m just waiting to see what comes up.”
