Sandford Farm proposed development in Woodley
Wilson Holds Public Meeting to Discuss Development Threat

…Special Guest Speaker Greg Clarke MP…

Following the latest proposals to build on the Sandford Farm site in Woodley, Rob Wilson, Member of Parliament for Reading East, will be holding a public meeting on Thursday 4 October 2007 at the Oakwood Centre, Woodley, to discuss concerns about the overdevelopment of our communities.

Rob Wilson has been fortunate to secure special guest speaker, Greg Clarke MP, who will speak on the subject of his Private Members Bill to protect green space and particularly back gardens from development.

The meeting will give residents the opportunity to raise their concerns about development in general, or more specifically the current Sandford Farm planning application.

Residents will also have the opportunity to question Greg Clarke on the work being done by the Conservative Party to protect our community from the Labour Government’s pro-development policies.

Rob Wilson MP commented: “Addressing a shortage in housing, needn’t be at the expense of an area’s existing residents.”

“Unfortunately, the current planning system is failing our country and failing my constituents and I am pleased that my Conservative colleagues are coming forward with pragmatic solutions to inject local democracy back into the system.”

“Real power needs to be given to local communities to decide if a development is appropriate and controversial housing proposals should not be forced through with a nod from Central Government Planning Inspectors.”

WHO: Rob Wilson MP and Greg Clarke MP
WHAT: Public meeting to discuss the campaign to halt over-development
WHERE: Carnival Hall, Oakwood Centre, Headley Road, Woodley

The site was last subject to a planning application in 2004, when Hicks Persimmon applied to build 450 houses at Sandford Farm. Following calls by then Woodley Coronation District Councillor David Ashman and Hurst District Councillor Annette Drake for a robust environmental impact study, the developers were forced to withdrawn the application when the required excavate of 300,000 cubic metres of waste from the site made the project not viable.
