SEGRO Takes Strategic Approach to Sustainability
A new and more strategic approach to sustainability is reflected in SEGRO’s Sustainability Report for 2008, published in full on its website with a summary version also available in print. Ian Coull, Chief Executive of SEGRO, said that sustainability is fundamental to the way in which SEGRO does business: “In a challenging market, it provides us with another means to differentiate ourselves from the competition, offering opportunities to manage risk and reduce costs, both for our business and for our customers.” Claudine Blamey, who took on the new role of Head of Sustainability at SEGRO in June 2008 has been driving the sustainability agenda forward. Following a thorough review, with a particular emphasis on dialogue with stakeholders, the Sustainability Strategy has been updated, with a number of demanding five-year targets set in the areas of resource efficiency, regeneration, flexible buildings, accessibility and safety. Achieving these targets will not only have a positive impact on sustainability, but will also help to create value. For example, by constructing buildings that are 30% more energy efficient, SEGRO is able to meet the evolving needs of its customers and respond to changing market trends in a more sustainable way. Claudine Blamey said: “I am particularly pleased by the extent to which we have been able to consult, and work with, our stakeholders in developing our approach to sustainability. SEGRO has always prided itself on keeping close to its customers; extending this principle to sustainability issues was a logical step, bringing real benefits both to SEGRO and to our customers.” SEGRO’s full Sustainability Report is available at www.SEGRO.com/sustainability08 |
