Heart of Slough

Ten years in the making and finally new information on the £400 million project to revitalise Slough have been unveiled.

One of the regeneration plans is to level Brunel Bus Station, which has recently be associated with hit comedy series The Office and become an iconic symbol in its own right.

1,500 new homes are also on the agenda to be built in Slough’s town centre, as well as a new hotel with a restaurant, 34,000 sq m of new office space and a new library which may be placed next to St Ethelbert's Church. Also featured in the plans is the removal of the current roundabout on the A4 in an attempt to create space for the development of residential and commercial properties.

All members of the public will get the opportunity to view the plans in detail when they go on display. The public exhibition is being held at the Queensmere shopping centre in slough which will run from Thursday 24th January until Saturday 26th January.

All new plans have been overseen by Slough Borough Council and English Partnerships, who are investing a cool £13.5 million in the project.

Area director David Ashworth stated "The project will bring real benefits to the community and make Slough a city ready for growth in the 21st Century".

He added "The provision of affordable homes, the regeneration of the town centre and the re-use of brownfield land are key elements of the project.

It is hoped that planning consent will be cleared in late summer, and then construction will then begin in the spring of 2009. The scheme is set to be completed by 2018.
