Slough DJ Attempts Record
Time 106.6 FM DJ Mike Russell is attempting a world record on May 14th: the longest continuous live broadcast. The current record is held by an Italian DJ; Mike is hoping to break this record by staying on the air for a non-stop five and a half days.
The 25-year old DJ – nickname Mike The Marathon Man – will commence the record-breaking broadcast attempt on his Monday morning show which kicks off at 8am on the 14th May. Mike will be raising money for Berkshire Give a Child a Chance – the favoured charity of Time 106.6. His plan to stay on the air for the grueling 125 hour session means medical staff will need to be standing by to monitor his health. “Humans are not meant to stay awake that long, so anything could happen” says Mike.
Indeed Mike is looking for chatty volunteers to visit him in the studio whilst carrying out the record attempt. This will help keep the momentum of the show going as well as fuelling his own energy to keep going. “We need people to certify that I am doing the challenge and to also make sure that I’m not going mad. It will be great listening” adds Mike. The visitors will also get the opportunity to talk for a minute on air.
The Time 106.6 show is broadcast from The Observatory Shopping Centre in Slough. The rules of the bid state that Mike can take a 15-minute every 8 hours – he can also play songs up to 6 minutes in length.
Anyone interested in donating to the charity or helping Mike beat the record should email mikethemarathonman@volunteerslough.org.uk for further information.
