New author celebrates book launch |
|||
Budding writer Marilyn Heward Mills has this been helping out as part of Black History Month, by hosting the event at Newbury Library.
Ms Heward Mills is also celebrating the release of her first novel, which has already received praise from the Costa Book Awards. It has been shortlisted in the First Novel category of the accolades (formerly known as the Whitbreads), the Reading Chronicle reports. Called Cloth Girl, the book is based around the difference between cultures, which was reflected in Ms Heward Mills' speech about life and culture in Ghana. "I am proud of my country and so incredibly proud to have written a book about Ghana," she said to the publication. She added that writing the book had a profound effect on her life. "The journey of writing the book has led to my personal growth and fulfilment," she remarked. Slough has also been taking part in the celebration of Black History, as TV's Robert McKewly of sitcom Desmonds hosted a showcase of local talent recently. www.businessinberkshire.co.uk/businessinnewbury
