Temple to be 'preserved for new property'
A Japanese temple placed at the Donnington Grove Country Club is likely to be preserved as part of a commercial property venture in Berkshire.
The inside of the building is set to be revamped by the club on the inside to form one of six new holiday homes at the golf club, reports Newbury Today.co.uk.
It remains one of only a few in Britain that were designed by a member of the Shi-Tennojid religious order (Rev Juntoku Deguchi).
Christopher Strong, manager at the country club, said that the venue will become a great attraction for visitors to the area.
"The temple will stay as it is. The gardens will have a lot more TLC because they will be part of the attraction for visitors. They'll now be lovely gardens to run around in," he told the publication.
The building is made from specially-imported Japanese wood and was built in 1993.
Other proposals by the club as part of a £4 million scheme include a car park under the ground and a 44-room hotel.
Donnington Grove Country Club is based near Newbury and boasts 550 acres of parkland and woodland.
