A recent survey indicates Newbury businesses are undecided about the future of the town’s market following its temporary re-location to Northbrook Street.
The ever-popular market was temporarily moved to Northbrook Street whilst the Market Place was being repaved. Now local businesses have been polled to determine whether the market should move back to the original location. With the market attracting many shoppers to the area it’s not surprising that most businesses in Northbrook Street are keen for the market to stay - whilst those in Market Place are clamouring for its return. The survey, carried out by Newbury Liberal Democrats, indicates that 72% pf Northbrook businesses want the market to stay. 86% of Market Place businesses want the market back home once the re-paving work is finished. With such an even split of opinion, the plan is to conduct a survey to determine the feelings of the market traders themselves and, importantly, the shoppers.
