The female view of networking
Networking hit the airwaves again on Thursday 7th June with a programme looking at networking from the female angle.
Jean Wolfe interviewed Mary Flavelle who is well known locally as a major networker, and Sylvia Baldock who is taking Athena by storm. Female networking is extremely successful in the local area but it was not always so.
When Mary founded the very successful "She plc" for the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce women's networking was often a poor relation of mixed or male networking. She deliberately chose a punchy name which helped to raise confidence for the meetings and for the women who attend them. Sylvia attributed the great success of her lunch time groups for business women to the fact that women are natural networkers. When they get together there is always fun and always a lot of noise! When planning networking meetings both Sylvia and Mary pay great attention to every last detail about the networking event with a slight difference in emphasis. Sylvia carefully prepares her guests for the experience, while Mary believes in terrifying everyone and calls herself the "bitch with the bell" .. which always helps the guests bond together and network! Women's networking looks set to keep on growing as more women realise it is an enjoyable and effective way of running your business.
