Enid's house sees regeneration and offers adventure
The roof of Enid Blyton's former home in Borne End has undergone a massive refurbishment, reports the Maidenhead Advertiser.
A group of craftsmen moved in to the house whilst the intensive project was carried out at the property on Coldmoorholm Lane.
Old Thatch is open to the public each year and also boasts two-acres of garden and grounds.
Jacky and David Hawthorne now own the property and run a garden business from it. Mrs Hawthorne told the Advertiser that the process had been arduous but the hard work had paid off.
"It was a huge project. They started in September and there were six thatchers who lived with us during the six weeks it took them. They went right down to the beams and did a superb job," she said.
The grounds also hold a tea-room which will be open daily to the public. Every year there is an Enid Blyton day, organised by the Enid Blyton Society to celebrate the author's works.
Her books include the Famous Five and the Secret Seven.
