Artplay3 exhibition - Families’ recycled art exhibited
A new family exhibition opened this week at the Stables Gallery in Twickenham, featuring sculptures inspired by everyday objects and made almost entirely of recycled waste.
The exhibits in House and Home, have been put together by members of Richmond Council’s Artplay3 project - a group of families from across the borough, particularly young parents and their children. They have worked with artist Sarah Richardson over the last two months to create their works. Cllr Pamela Fleming, Strategic Cabinet Member for Community Development on Richmond Council, said: “This is a really interesting exhibition, my congratulations to all those who contributed. The Artplay project is an excellent example of the courses our Arts Service run to provide young parents and their children opportunities to learn together. “The exhibition runs until the end of August and would be a perfect family holiday outing and an opportunity to see all the other activities on offer at the Stables and Orleans House Galleries, including Eleanor Pritchard’s exquisite Place Setting project.” Among the work on display is The Hive, a sculpture partly created by Gemma Roberts, together with her 3-year old son, Sean. She said: “What really motivated us is knowing that we were making something for the children to play in and the thought of their little faces at the end, that’s what really boosted our will to work.” The exhibition runs from 8 July – 29 August at the Stables Gallery, Riverside, Twickenham, TW1 3DJ.
